SNAKE EYES - S/T 7" + Demo

Location: Los Angeles
Release: 1917 Records, 2005-2007 (out of print)

Some already know that 1917 Records rose from the dead with a new co-release in hand: Guns Up! discography 2xLP.

The label put a few old stuff for sale as well uploaded part of their catalogue on bandcamp in high quality, lots of rad bands from the mid 00's, one of them is SNAKE EYES, a short-lived project done by riff maniacs Todd Jones and Corey Willians. The other dudes in it would be Bo Thompson (ex-Donnybrook) handling the mic, Nick Trujillo (Absolute Madness) on bass and a few dudes takin' over the drums, for instance, Bill Lanz (Internal Affairs).

Snake Eyes were all about hard-hitting well produced hardcore as you would expect from the kind of bands they were playing at the time. They did 2 albums: the 2005's Demo released on CD and the 2007's Self Titled 7", both on 1917 recs.

GET A GRIP & INTENT - Promo Tape 2015

Arizona's GET A GRIP (ex-Wrong Idea) return with a new selection of songs on limited tape by D2C Records. Their music is fast and abrasive punk in the vein of Germs, Minor Threat and Poison Idea. This is their third record, first one was released not so long ago by Life To Live (apparently sold out).
There a few hardcore punk bands with the same name, around 2005 there was a good one from Richmond, worth tracking down as well!

DC's ITENT just finished a 2 track tape for an upcoming tour w/ Freedom and Fury, but I don't think these will make it to their compilation 12" planned for later this year on Triple B Records.

ETERNAL CHAMPION - Retaliator

Location: Texas, USA
Release: No Remorse, 2015

What to say about ETERNAL CHAMPION? 3 years 3 songs, has dudes from IRON AGE/Far From Breaking and POWER TRIP in it and they play traditional metal, heavy metal.

2 points to be considered here, will the new (metal) listeners of EC go check their hardcore background and dig their previous stuff and will the hardcore kids embrace this new project? Back in 2011 I remember listening for the first time the SFU's Striving Higher compilation and right in the middle of the A-side (for my surprise) there was a metal song by Battle Ruins, all the sudden everything they've put out were highly sought-after inside the hardcore community.

What will be the outcome? Dunno, what I know is that these songs are catchy as fuck! The Retaliator single came out as split 12" by a greek label and limited to 300 hand numbered copies. 60 Retaliator shirts were made and almost vanished, only weird sizes left on their bandcamp.

For fans of: Brocas Helm, Omen, Conan comics and D.D. The Wizard.

COLD & DISTANT - S/T EP [+ interview]

Location: Charleston, US
Release: D2C Records, 2014

COLD & DISTANT is a recent band hailing from West Virginia, they put out their first EP last year and has another one coming out soon. I sent these questions to know more of the whereabouts of C&D.

Is the S/T EP really the band's first record? It sounds very solid, any of you played in a band before? It is our first recording as Cold & Distant. However, we have been in multiple bands over the past decade within the same hardcore/metal scene. This band started in the winter of 2013 and we've been writing nonstop since.

The EP came out on very limited quantities through D2C Records, right? Whats the history behind it and who runs it? Yea, Louis who owns/operates D2C actually contacted us offering to do tapes and we took him up on the offer. The limited amount is basically because we do everything ourselves and with the help of awesome people.

New full-length is almost done? What can expect from it? Well first off it isn't an actual full length record. This is going to be another five songs of pure aggression that we want you to bang your head to. It's definitely heavier and more metal/thrash influenced than the previous recording.

What are the highs and lows of Charleston (WV), either as in life in general as in the underground music scene? The main high point would be the people who you come to know and spend your time with. The lows would be the poverty and ramped drug use. You're born here, you get hooked on drugs, and you die here. That's why we turned to hardcore and the music scene to escape from that bullshit.

Name at least 5 records you've been spinning on regular basis lately:
Foreseen - Helsinki Savagery
Cro-mags - Alpha Omega
Bitter End - Illusion of Dominance
The Beautiful Ones - Jaded Love
Eternal Sleep - Belief In The Truth of Nothing.

Do you keep a collection of any sorts? Three out of four of us collect comics and records. We as a band collect as much musical equipment as possible.

Thanks for answering and for participating in this blog's 2015 Sampler. Feel free to give shout outs! We want to give a shout out to all of our family and friends. We would also like to give respect to all the bands that came before us and created this outlet for us to share our lives.
